Snow Blankets Liverpool and Manchester, Disrupting Travel Across the UK

Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport have temporarily closed their runways, citing heavy overnight snow that left airport teams racing against time to clear pathways. Temperatures plummeted to -11°C in Loch Glascarnoch, Scotland, marking one of the coldest nights of the season. Meanwhile, parts of northern England have been blanketed with up to 25 cm of snow, with reports of as much as 40 cm in higher altitudes like the Pennines and Cumbrian Fells. These conditions have led to amber weather warnings being issued across central and northern England, including Liverpool and the North Midlands. Freezing rain and icy roads have compounded the situation, prompting authorities to advise against non-essential travel.
