Stephen Fry Wins Big onWho Wants To Be A Millionaire?
Stephen Fry, the beloved actor, writer, and comedian, recently achieved a remarkable victory on the celebrity edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Fry managed to walk away with an impressive £250,000, which he plans to donate to the mental health charity Mind, where he has served as president since 2011.
During his appearance, Fry demonstrated his usual wit, intellect, and grace under pressure. One of the key moments came when he used the "Ask the Host" lifeline to consult Clarkson on a geography question. The question asked which European city—Brussels, Strasbourg, Munich, or Luxembourg City—you would come closest to if walking in a straight line from Paris to Berlin. With Clarkson's insight and Fry's own reasoning, they narrowed the options down, and Fry decided to take the risk. It paid off, bringing him to a quarter of a million pounds.
The show also highlighted Fry’s camaraderie with his phone-a-friend lifeline, Richard Osman, who attempted to assist him with a £500,000 question. Unfortunately, time ran out, and Osman couldn’t provide an answer. Fry wisely chose to walk away with his winnings rather than risk it. In a bittersweet twist, Fry later learned that his instinctive guess would have been correct. Reflecting on the experience, Fry described it as exhilarating, though he had no regrets about his decision to stop at £250,000.

This isn’t Fry’s first success on the show; he won £125,000 for charity in 2005 alongside Nigella Lawson. Fry’s latest victory, however, has been described by Clarkson as one of the most impressive wins in recent years.
Fry’s generosity in donating his winnings to Mind reflects his passion for mental health advocacy. He emphasized the importance of supporting those in distress, especially young people struggling with inner pain. Fry’s contribution will undoubtedly help Mind continue its vital work in providing resources, guidance, and hope to many.
Known for his roles in QI , A Bit of Fry & Laurie , and Jeeves and Wooster , as well as his portrayal of Oscar Wilde, Fry remains an icon of both humor and humanity. His latest Millionaire triumph is yet another testament to his brilliance and compassion.
