PC Rosie Prior joined North Yorkshire Police as a student officer in May 2022. Her dedication to service and her compassionate presence in the community earned her great respect. Her family described her as a “loving mum, wife, daughter, sister, and aunty” whose loss leaves a profound void in their lives.

Chief Constable Tim Forber expressed the department’s deep sorrow, calling the incident “a heartbreaking event for everyone involved.” He reassured that the force is extending full support to Rosie’s family and colleagues during this trying time. Similarly, Ryan Welford’s family paid tribute to him, remembering him as a hardworking and loving father, husband, and son who will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

The tragedy also underscores the risks faced by emergency responders, who often work in precarious conditions to ensure public safety. The police have appealed to the public for witnesses and dashcam footage to aid their investigation into this heart-wrenching event. The road, closed for several hours following the collision, has since reopened.
