Barrios, who was armed with a large kitchen knife, allegedly asked the showgirls for a photo before unleashing his terrifying assault. The video shows him sprinting down the strip, knife in hand, before he stabs DiGiovanni, causing her to collapse to the ground. He continues his rampage, attacking others as he ran down the boulevard. The chaos continued with Barrios stabbing another man, sending him to the ground, and attacking yet another person before eventually being tackled by police inside the Sands Expo.
The attack left the city reeling, and police later revealed that the victims were specifically targeted in an indiscriminate manner. Prosecutors believe Barrios had a personal grievance, as he reportedly became enraged after the showgirls laughed at his appearance. The incident left not only DiGiovanni dead but also six others wounded, many of whom were fellow showgirls. Barrios was quickly arrested and faced charges ranging from murder to terrorism. Authorities later revealed his troubling history, including prior run-ins with the law, but it was clear this attack left an indelible mark on the city.
