UFC 312 Card Gets Mixed Reactions After Release - Fans Disappointed by Lineup

UFC 312 is just around the corner, scheduled for February 8, 2025, and as expected, the official bout order was released recently. But rather than excitement, the news sparked disappointment among many MMA fans who took to social media to express their frustrations. With a combination of known names and relatively unknown matchups, the pay-per-view event has drawn criticism for its lackluster lineup.

The main event features a middleweight championship rematch between the reigning champion Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland. The two first met in January 2024, where Du Plessis edged out a split-decision victory. Although Strickland has been vocal about feeling robbed, many fans seem indifferent to the rematch. Despite the fact that Du Plessis has gained significant attention after defeating Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya, fans just aren’t as enthusiastic about a second meeting between these two fighters. Strickland, known for his technical striking, doesn't bring the same kind of explosive appeal that fans might expect from a title bout. His unorthodox style and lack of finishers in recent fights haven’t done him any favors in terms of popularity.

The co-main event is equally underwhelming, with Weili Zhang defending her UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship against Tatiana Suarez. While both women are skilled, the matchup doesn’t seem to ignite the same level of excitement, especially with Suarez’s inactivity due to injuries. Zhang, a top fighter, doesn’t have the same level of public connection, particularly in the American market.

Beyond the main and co-main events, the rest of the card features several lesser-known fighters and matchups that fail to generate much buzz. While some of these fights may turn out to be exciting, fans are often hesitant to invest in a pay-per-view that lacks star power and intrigue. There’s no denying that UFC 312 might have more thrilling fights on paper, but the lack of big names at the top of the card is a tough pill to swallow for many.

As it stands, UFC 312 might end up being one of those events where the action inside the Octagon could surprise us. But when it comes to the drawing power and anticipation, this card seems to be falling short, and fans are vocal about it. For diehard fans, like myself, it’s still a must-watch event, but for the casual viewer, it’s hard to ignore the fact that UFC 312 just doesn’t have that “wow factor” that many were hoping for. We can only hope that the fights live up to the hype.
