Zach LaVine Dominates as Bulls End Skid with Victory Over Clippers
On January 20, 2025, Zach LaVine led the Chicago Bulls to a much-needed 112-99 win against the Los Angeles Clippers, helping the team snap a five-game losing streak. LaVine put on an impressive performance, scoring 35 points, a remarkable feat that further solidified his place in Bulls' history. His stellar performance saw him tie the late Bob Love for the second-most 30-point games in the franchise's history. The victory was even more significant as it came on the back of a challenging back-to-back series for the Bulls, who were coming off a game in Portland.
LaVine was instrumental throughout the game, particularly in the third quarter, where he scored 15 points to help the Bulls outscore the Clippers 36-16. This offensive explosion turned a narrow halftime deficit into an 18-point lead, giving the Bulls a comfortable margin heading into the final quarter. LaVine continued to shine in the fourth, scoring 11 of his 35 points in the closing minutes, including two critical three-pointers that sealed the win for Chicago.

Talen Horton-Tucker was another bright spot for the Bulls, contributing 18 points off the bench, while Josh Giddey added a well-rounded effort with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. The Bulls were dominant on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 54-40, an area the Clippers struggled in with the absence of starting center Ivica Zubac, who was out due to a corneal abrasion. The Clippers also missed the presence of Kawhi Leonard, who sat out the game for injury management.
For the Clippers, Norman Powell was the standout player, scoring 27 points, and James Harden added 17 points and 10 assists. However, despite their efforts, the Clippers struggled with their shooting, particularly from beyond the arc, where they managed only 9 successful three-pointers out of 42 attempts. The absence of Zubac and Leonard certainly left the Clippers' offense out of sync, contributing to their inability to overcome the Bulls' strong performance.
The victory was a significant morale booster for the Bulls, who had been dealing with a tough stretch. It also highlighted LaVine's ability to step up in key moments, a trait that will be crucial as the team looks to build some momentum in the coming weeks. On the other hand, the Clippers, despite the loss, remain a solid team but will need to regroup quickly, especially with another challenging stretch ahead of them.
Up next, the Bulls will face the Golden State Warriors, while the Clippers will host the defending champions, the Boston Celtics. Both teams will be looking to bounce back and make a push for a stronger second half of the season.
