Aimee Lou Wood on Walton Goggins’ Unexpected Heartthrob Status: “The Ghoul Did Weird Things to People”

If you’ve been watching The White Lotus Season 3, you’re probably already intrigued by the complex, tension-filled relationship between Rick, played by Walton Goggins, and Chelsea, played by Aimee Lou Wood. But it seems the on-screen chemistry isn’t the only thing that has fans talking—Walton Goggins himself has become something of an internet sensation, and Aimee Lou Wood is well aware of it.

In a recent interview, Wood acknowledged just how much the internet has been thirsting over Goggins, particularly after his role as “The Ghoul” in Prime Video’s Fallout . “He was already a heartthrob, of course,” Wood said. “But when Fallout came out, the Ghoul did weird things to people. It got bigger.” And she’s not wrong—somehow, despite playing a post-apocalyptic character with no nose, Goggins has fans swooning left and right.

Wood admitted that the frenzy surrounding Goggins only intensified while they were filming The White Lotus . “It was actually really fun to be around that time when Fallout came out and this huge reaction to the Ghoul happened,” she shared. “People were like, ‘How can he still be sexy with no nose?’” Even Wood herself had to mentally separate her co-star from his rising internet status just to focus on the job. “I had to think of him as Rick, not Walton Goggins,” she explained. “Because if I thought of him as Walton Goggins, I’d be freaking out.”

In The White Lotus Season 3, Rick is a deeply troubled character whose tragic past has shaped his cynical, gruff demeanor. His father was killed before he was born, and his mother, a drug addict, died when he was a child. His relationship with Chelsea is as much about emotional connection as it is about passion. Their undeniable chemistry is highlighted in Episode 2, where a tension-filled dinner turns into a steamy moment between them.

When asked whether Chelsea is drawn to Rick’s personality or if his looks play a role, Wood didn’t hesitate. “I think it’s his soul,” she said before laughing, “but yeah, Chelsea would definitely be like, ‘Rick’s gorge!’ I mean, yeah, obviously. It’s Walton.”

It’s clear that Goggins’ appeal extends far beyond his characters—whether he’s playing a hardened antihero or a grumpy, wounded soul, people can’t get enough of him. And with both Fallout and The White Lotus fueling the obsession, Walton Goggins’ unexpected rise as a sex symbol is only getting bigger.

Catch more of him when The White Lotus returns next Sunday at 9 PM ET on HBO and Max.
