André 3000 Bows Out of 2025 Grammys, But His Album Still Shines
Big news in the music world—André 3000, the legendary Outkast artist and one of the most talked-about nominees for Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards, has officially announced that he won’t be attending the ceremony. With his critically acclaimed instrumental album New Blue Sun up for multiple awards, including Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Instrumental Composition , fans were eagerly anticipating his presence at the star-studded event. But, just a day before the show, André took to Instagram to share that he wouldn’t be making an appearance.
He didn’t specify the reason for his absence but reassured his supporters that some of the New Blue Sun musicians and friends would still be attending on his behalf. “Our album was conceived and recorded in Los Angeles with the spirit of openness and creative collaboration. We hope that the rebound of Los Angeles is swift and renewing,” he wrote, possibly alluding to the recent challenges faced by the city. He also took a moment to congratulate fellow nominees and artists, encouraging them to "keep playing."

André 3000’s New Blue Sun has been one of the most unique Grammy contenders this year. As his first solo project, the album marked a surprising departure from his rap roots, embracing experimental jazz and ambient soundscapes —a bold move that paid off, resonating with both critics and fans alike. His nomination for Album of the Year put him in direct competition with heavyweights like Beyoncé ( Cowboy Carter ) , Taylor Swift ( The Tortured Poets Department ) , Billie Eilish ( Hit Me Hard and Soft ) , Charli XCX ( Brat ) , Sabrina Carpenter ( Short n’ Sweet ) , Jacob Collier ( Djesse Vol. 4 ) , and Chappell Roan ( The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess ) .
Despite his absence, André has remained humble about the recognition, previously saying in an interview that he’s simply grateful for the attention. “I’m just happy people are listening. Awards are great, but it’s really about getting people to hear what you’re doing,” he shared. He also hinted at new music projects in 2025 , keeping fans excited about what’s next.
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards will still be a massive night, with an incredible lineup of performers, including Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Lady Gaga, Shakira, and Bruno Mars . Hosted by Trevor Noah , the event will air live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2.
While André 3000’s absence is a disappointment for many, his groundbreaking album speaks for itself. Whether or not he takes home the Grammy gold , New Blue Sun has already made history, proving that true artistry knows no boundaries.
