BJP's Comeback in Delhi After 27 Years? Early Trends Shake Up Political Landscape
The political landscape in Delhi is witnessing a dramatic shift as early trends from the 2025 Assembly Election results indicate a strong comeback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after nearly three decades. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has dominated Delhi politics for the past ten years, appears to be facing a major setback, while Congress continues to struggle for relevance in the capital.
As millions of voters exercised their franchise on February 5, the stakes were high for all major political players. The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 60.42%, with North East Delhi recording the highest participation at 66.25% and South East Delhi showing a relatively lower turnout at 56.16%. Exit polls had already hinted at a BJP advantage, but the actual counting trends are now reinforcing those predictions. With BJP leading in over 40 seats, the party looks poised to form the government, crossing the crucial majority mark of 36 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly.

This election is witnessing fierce battles in key constituencies. AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, contesting from New Delhi, initially trailed against BJP’s Parvesh Verma but has now gained a lead. However, other prominent AAP leaders like Delhi CM Atishi and Manish Sisodia are struggling to keep up. In Kalkaji, Atishi is trailing behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, while in Okhla, a traditionally strong AAP seat, BJP’s Manish Choudhary has taken the lead over Amanatullah Khan. Congress, on the other hand, seems to be a non-factor, failing to make significant gains.
One of the most talked-about aspects of this election is the potential BJP chief ministerial candidate. Several names are emerging, including Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, and Vijender Gupta. BJP leaders have credited the party’s performance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, claiming that Delhi voters have chosen development and governance over "AAP’s mismanagement and corruption."
The results also highlight the impact of the divided opposition. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut pointed out that had AAP and Congress contested together, the outcome might have been different. Instead, their rivalry seems to have cleared BJP’s path to victory.
As vote counting continues across 19 centers in Delhi, all eyes remain on the final tally. If the trends hold, this will mark BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 27 years, reshaping the political dynamics of the capital. The coming hours will determine whether AAP can stage a late comeback or if BJP will officially seal its victory. Stay tuned!
