BJP's Resurgence in Delhi: AAP Faces Major Setback in 2025 Elections

The political battleground in Delhi has once again taken center stage as the Election Commission of India (ECI) oversees the 2025 Vidhan Sabha election results. As counting progresses, early trends indicate a significant shift in power, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making a strong comeback after 27 years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has dominated the capital for the last two terms, is facing a tough fight, trailing in key constituencies, including those of its senior leaders.

One of the biggest shocks of the day has been the defeat of AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from the Jangpura constituency. He conceded defeat to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by a margin of over 600 votes. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Atishi is struggling to hold ground in Kalkaji, trailing behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,000 votes. Even AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has found himself in a close battle in the New Delhi seat, trailing behind BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh at various points before taking a slender lead.

With trends now available for all 70 seats, the numbers paint a clear picture. The BJP is leading in 48 seats, while AAP is ahead in 22. The Congress, which once ruled Delhi, is nowhere in the picture, failing to secure a stronghold. The decision by Congress and AAP to contest separately, despite being part of the INDIA bloc, seems to have worked in the BJP’s favor, as opposition votes split between the two parties.

Senior BJP leaders are celebrating the party’s resurgence, attributing it to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and their focused campaign strategy. BJP's Kapil Mishra has extended a substantial lead in Karawal Nagar, while Mohan Singh Bisht has dominated Mustafabad with a massive margin of over 40,000 votes. Ramesh Bidhuri’s continued lead against Atishi further cements BJP’s stronghold.

Political experts believe that AAP’s struggles stem from multiple factors, including allegations surrounding the liquor policy scam, which significantly impacted the party’s credibility. Social activist Anna Hazare commented on the matter, stating that Kejriwal’s image was damaged due to corruption allegations, leading to voter distrust. The AAP, which had once built its foundation on anti-corruption and governance reforms, now faces a perception crisis.

The BJP, on the other hand, has built its campaign around development, governance, and a strong leadership under Modi. Their narrative appears to have resonated with the voters, who have shown confidence in the party after nearly three decades. As results solidify, BJP leaders are already planning victory celebrations, with Prime Minister Modi set to address party workers at 7 PM.

While AAP is still holding onto hope in a few key constituencies, the overall trend is clear: Delhi might witness a major political shift, bringing the BJP back to power. The final results will determine the next phase of governance in the national capital, but as of now, the winds of change are blowing in favor of the saffron party.
