Cyclone Zelia has left a trail of destruction across Western Australia’s Pilbara region, bringing heavy rain, destructive winds, and widespread flooding. Although the system has now been downgraded to a category three cyclone, its impact is still being felt across towns like Port Hedland, South Hedland, and Marble Bar.
In the early hours of the morning, torrential rain flooded streets, turning roads into rivers, while powerful gusts brought down mature trees. Residents in Port Hedland, who had braced themselves for the worst, are now assessing the aftermath. Fortunately, early reports suggest that structural damage has been limited, though the clean-up will take days.

Marble Bar, known for its extreme heat, has been experiencing what some locals have described as "biblical" conditions. Emergency services remain on high alert, closely monitoring the situation as Zelia continues tracking southward. Although the cyclone has weakened, authorities warn that heavy rain and flash flooding could still pose significant dangers. Power outages have been reported in multiple areas, leaving thousands without electricity. Horizon Power crews are working around the clock to restore services as quickly as possible.
Despite the destruction, the Pilbara community has shown resilience. Locals have come together to sandbag homes, check in on neighbors, and assist with clean-up efforts. The spirit of helping one another remains strong as residents begin to pick up the pieces.
