Daylight Saving Time 2025: When to Spring Forward
Alright, folks, it's that time of year again—when we lose an hour of sleep but gain longer, brighter evenings! Daylight Saving Time (DST) is just around the corner, and if you’re wondering when to set those clocks forward, I’ve got you covered.
Mark your calendars—this year, DST starts on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2 a.m. That means most Americans will have to push their clocks forward by one hour. Yes, it’s that dreaded night when we lose some precious sleep, but in return, we get sunsets stretching further into the evening, making it feel like spring is truly on its way.

Now, if you're in Arizona or Hawaii, you can kick back and ignore all of this—those states don’t observe DST. But for the rest of us, it’s time to adjust. On March 9, sunrise will be at 7:08 a.m. , and sunset will be at 6:47 p.m. in places like Worcester, Massachusetts. The longer daylight hours will stick around until November 2, 2025 , when we “fall back” and return to standard time.
A little history lesson—DST has been around for over a century. It was first implemented in 1918 during World War I as a way to save energy. It became federal law in 1966 , and then in 2007 , it was extended to the current schedule: the second Sunday in March through the first Sunday in November.
Of course, not everyone is a fan of this twice-a-year clock change. Over the years, there have been efforts to make DST permanent. In fact, in 2022 , the U.S. Senate unanimously approved a bill to do just that, but it never made it through the House. More recently, former President Donald Trump even weighed in, calling DST “inconvenient and costly” and suggesting he would push to eliminate it altogether.
But for now, nothing has changed, so set those reminders! On March 9, before you go to bed, move your clocks forward one hour and get ready to enjoy those extra hours of evening sunshine. Sure, we might be groggy for a day or two, but hey, longer days and shorter nights mean summer is just around the corner!
