A recent incident at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has left many in shock as a Japan Airlines plane collided with a stationary Delta Air Lines aircraft. The event unfolded on February 5, 2025, when the right wing of a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 struck the tail of a Delta Boeing 737 while both planes were taxiing on the runway. This collision occurred at approximately 10:40 AM, with the Delta plane in the process of being deiced at the time.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, and the incident did not result in any fatalities. The Delta flight, Flight 1921, which was bound for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, had 142 passengers on board. The airline quickly worked to rebook the affected travelers on alternate flights. The Japan Airlines flight, Flight JL68, had 172 passengers and 13 crew members on board, arriving from Narita International Airport in Japan. The right wing of their aircraft clipped the tail of the Delta plane as it was taxiing after its arrival.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the cause of this unusual accident. As part of their safety protocols, the FAA temporarily halted some flights into Seattle’s airport while investigations took place.

A video from a passenger aboard one of the planes surfaced on social media, showing the damage caused by the collision. The wing of the Japan Airlines plane appeared to be stuck on the Delta jet’s tail, capturing the attention of many as the scene unfolded. Japan Airlines, acknowledging the mishap, issued an apology for the inconvenience caused to those involved.

Despite the dramatic nature of the incident, both airlines ensured that their passengers were well taken care of, prioritizing safety and rebooking efforts.
