Former Arsenal Striker Lucas Perez Joins PSV in Surprise Move

Hey everyone, here’s an interesting bit of football news for you—Lucas Perez, the former Arsenal striker, has just signed for PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer. Now, this is a bit of a surprise, not just because it marks the 14th transfer of his career , but also because it comes just weeks before PSV faces Arsenal in the Champions League knockout stages.

For those who might not remember, Perez joined Arsenal back in 2016 for a £17 million fee from Deportivo La Coruña. Though he had a decent record when he played—scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 21 appearances—he never really found his place in the squad. After a loan back to Deportivo, he had brief spells with West Ham, Alaves, Elche, and Cadiz , before returning once again to Deportivo.

Now, at 36 years old, he’s making yet another move, this time to the Dutch league with PSV. The club signed him on a short-term deal until the end of the season, and he’ll be wearing the No. 27 shirt. In his statement, Perez expressed excitement about the new challenge, saying he’s eager to score goals and provide assists for his new team.

But here’s the catch— he won’t be able to play against Arsenal in the Champions League . UEFA’s registration deadline for the tournament passed on February 6 , so despite signing with PSV, he won’t be available for selection against his former club. That means Arsenal fans won’t get a chance to see him in action when the two teams clash in the last-16 tie on March 4 and March 12 .

So what does this move mean for PSV? Well, they’ve just pulled off an incredible result against Juventus , winning 4-3 on aggregate in the knockout playoffs. Bringing in an experienced forward like Perez adds depth to their squad as they push for domestic and European success. He’s already made it clear that he’s here to help PSV chase the league title and the Dutch Cup .

For Perez, this transfer is yet another chapter in what has been an unpredictable career. From playing in Spain, England, Ukraine, and now the Netherlands, he’s been all over the place. And despite being in the latter years of his career, he’s still got that hunger to perform.

It’ll be interesting to see how he fits into Peter Bosz’s squad and whether he can make a real impact in the Eredivisie . One thing’s for sure—PSV saw something in him to bring him in at this stage of the season, and he’s determined to prove them right.

What do you think about this move? Will Perez make a difference at PSV? Let me know your thoughts!
