So, let’s talk about the latest controversy surrounding Ludwig and his entry into the VTuber world. If you’ve been following the streaming scene, you probably know that Ludwig Ahgren, one of the biggest names on Twitch and YouTube, recently made his VTuber debut. But, of course, the internet being the internet, it didn’t take long for things to get messy.

Here’s what happened. Back in 2021, Ludwig lost a gaming challenge to the popular VTuber Ironmouse, and as part of the deal, he had to become a VTuber himself. Fast forward three years, and he finally made good on that promise. On February 23, 2025, Ludwig introduced his VTuber persona—a cat-boy model—during a major stream across Twitch and YouTube. Fans were hyped, and the stream pulled in a huge audience. But not everyone was thrilled.

Some members of the VTuber community weren’t happy with how Ludwig approached it. One of the loudest voices was VTuber Momma Occo, who took to social media to call out Ludwig, saying, “We need to gatekeep against people that would bastardize a medium. Ludwig, you are not welcome in the VTuber community.” Ouch. That statement sparked a heated debate. Some felt that Ludwig was just using VTubing as a gimmick and didn’t respect the culture, while others defended him, saying he clearly put effort into his debut and wasn’t trying to mock the community.

Ludwig himself wasn’t about to stay silent. He responded directly on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I think VTubers are cool and I tried my best during my debut stream! I know I don’t understand as much as native VTubers, so I tried to make it faithful to what a debut stream should be while also making it fun for my regular audience.” He also said he “massively disagrees” with the criticism about his VTuber model, making it clear that he respects the medium and didn’t intend to offend anyone.

Despite the backlash, Ludwig is sticking with VTubing. He confirmed that he’ll continue using his VTuber avatar in future streams. Love it or hate it, his involvement raises an interesting question: Is VTubing something that should remain exclusive to a niche community, or is it open to any content creator willing to embrace it?

One thing’s for sure—Ludwig isn’t backing down, and this debate isn’t over.
