Milan’s Season Crumbles in Bologna Defeat Amid Controversy
Wow, what a night in Bologna! AC Milan’s season just took a serious hit after a frustrating 2-1 loss to Bologna, and honestly, it wasn’t pretty. This was a game originally scheduled for October but got postponed due to floods. Fast forward to now, and Milan walked into the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium with high expectations, only to leave with more questions than answers.
It all started so well for the Rossoneri. Just before halftime, Rafael Leão gave Milan the lead with a brilliant goal. A long ball from Mike Maignan found Santiago Giménez, who flicked it on perfectly. Leão, showing his blistering pace, rounded the keeper and slotted it home. It was classic Milan—direct, efficient, and deadly.

But then came the controversy. Right after the restart, Bologna equalized through Santiago Castro. The ball took a deflection off Giovanni Fabbian’s arm before Castro fired it in from close range. Milan’s players were convinced it was handball, but after a VAR review, the goal stood. The frustration was evident on the pitch, and from that moment on, Milan looked rattled.
They had chances—Yunus Musah, Luka Jović, and even a couple of decent half-chances from range—but they couldn’t capitalize. And then came the hammer blow. In the 82nd minute, Milan completely switched off on a throw-in. Nicolò Cambiaghi sent in a pinpoint cross, and Dan Ndoye, stretching at full capacity, got just enough on it to send it past Maignan.
Just like that, Milan’s hopes crumbled. The final whistle blew, and Bologna had pulled off a huge victory, pushing themselves closer to the top four while Milan slumped further down the table. From title contenders to struggling for a Champions League spot—it’s been a brutal turn of events for Milan.
At this point, questions need to be asked. The defense looked shaky, the attack lacked sharpness, and the team seemed mentally fragile after that controversial equalizer. Was it bad luck, poor officiating, or just a lack of focus? Either way, Milan fans will be fuming, and rightfully so.
If they don’t turn things around quickly, this season could slip away completely.
