Nylander’s Hat Trick Leads Maple Leafs to Victory Over Flames
What a night for William Nylander and the Toronto Maple Leafs! Nylander put on an absolute show, scoring a hat trick to power the Leafs to a 6-3 win over the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome. This was exactly the kind of performance Toronto needed after a rough three-game losing streak, and they’ve now strung together back-to-back wins.
Auston Matthews was also on fire, picking up three assists, while Matthew Knies added a goal and an assist. John Tavares and Bobby McMann also found the back of the net, rounding out a solid offensive effort. In goal, Joseph Woll stood tall, making 23 saves to keep the Flames at bay.
One notable absence for Toronto was Mitch Marner, who was a game-time decision but ultimately sat out due to a lower-body injury. Marner, who’s set to represent Canada in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, is currently the Leafs’ top scorer with 70 points this season. His status remains day-to-day.

Calgary got on the board first thanks to Matt Coronato, who buried a power-play goal late in the first period. But the Leafs came roaring back in the second. Nylander evened things up with a power-play one-timer, and just 41 seconds later, Tavares put Toronto ahead with a slick backhander. The Flames didn’t back down, though—Yegor Sharangovich tipped in a shot on another power play to make it 2-2.
Then came the turning point. McMann’s goal put the Leafs up 3-2, and before the period was over, Nylander struck again, beating Flames goalie Dustin Wolf with a sharp wrist shot to extend the lead to 4-2. Toronto kept the momentum going into the third, with Knies cleaning up a rebound to make it 5-2. Calgary tried to push back, as Joel Farabee—playing in just his second game since being traded from Philadelphia—scored to cut the deficit to 5-3.
But this was Nylander’s night. With just 44 seconds left, he sealed the win with an empty-net goal, completing his second career NHL hat trick. The Leafs now sit at 32-19-2 on the season, looking to build on this momentum as they continue their road trip.
The Flames, meanwhile, have now lost four of their last six games and will need to regroup quickly. Wolf finished with 24 saves, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Toronto’s high-powered attack.
With Nylander and Matthews clicking and Woll holding strong in net, the Leafs are looking dangerous. If they keep up this level of play, they’ll be a serious force down the stretch. What a game!
