Ruben Amorim Hints at Young Talent Amid Striker Struggles
Manchester United fans might be in for a surprise soon, as manager Ruben Amorim has hinted at the possible first-team debut of 17-year-old wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin. With the current attacking duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling for form, Amorim is considering fresh options, and Obi-Martin’s name is at the top of the list.
The young Danish striker has been making waves since joining United from Arsenal’s academy, where he shattered records with an incredible 32 goals in just 18 U18 Premier League matches. Even at United, he has continued his impressive form, netting nine goals in 11 youth appearances this season. Given his remarkable goal-scoring ability, many United fans believe he deserves a chance to shine in the first team—especially considering the club’s ongoing goal drought.

Rasmus Hojlund has gone 13 games without scoring, while Zirkzee has managed just one goal in his last 16 appearances. That kind of form is a real concern, especially with key attacking players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony no longer part of the squad. Naturally, this has sparked discussions about promoting Obi-Martin to the senior team.
When asked about the possibility, Amorim acknowledged the youngster’s progress but remained cautious. “He’s doing his job, improving, and playing in the youth teams,” he said. “We also have other players who can play that position. Rasmus and Josh are here, we brought them in, and sometimes confidence can change a player. We’ll see by the end of the season.”
While Amorim seems to be giving Hojlund and Zirkzee more time to regain their confidence, the fact that Obi-Martin is even in the conversation suggests he could get his chance sooner rather than later.
Interestingly, Amorim has already decided to promote another young talent—18-year-old center-back Ayden Heaven. Like Obi-Martin, Heaven was also snatched from Arsenal’s academy and joined United in January. Amorim believes he fits the club’s current philosophy of recruiting young, hungry players who can adapt to the demands of the Premier League. Another new recruit, Patrick Dorgu, is also expected to be integrated into the squad.
With the season entering a crucial phase, the pressure is mounting on United’s strikers to start delivering. If they don’t, we might just see a new face leading the line at Old Trafford—and at just 17, Chido Obi-Martin could be the next big name to emerge.
