Saudi Arabia Hosts Key US-Russia Talks on Ukraine Amid UK Military Readiness
Big developments are unfolding in the ongoing Ukraine conflict as Saudi Arabia prepares to host critical negotiations between the United States and Russia. These talks, set to begin on Tuesday, mark a major diplomatic effort to address the war. According to reports, key US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff, and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, will be traveling to Saudi Arabia for the discussions. While Ukraine is not directly involved in this round of talks, former US envoy Keith Kellogg is expected to be in Kyiv, pushing a "dual track" approach to negotiations.
The Saudi government isn’t just playing host—they are actively mediating the discussions, with their national security adviser leading the effort. This is a significant move, considering Saudi Arabia’s growing role in global diplomacy. Notably, former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly highlighted Saudi Arabia’s importance in international negotiations, and it was just last week that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman facilitated the release of an American detainee in Russia.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has declared that the UK is “ready and willing” to send British troops to Ukraine if needed to enforce a future peace agreement. In an article published in the Daily Telegraph , Starmer acknowledged the weight of such a decision but emphasized that ensuring Ukraine’s security also strengthens Europe’s safety. He has urged European nations to boost their defense spending and take a larger role in NATO, while still stressing that American support remains essential.
These developments come as European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, prepare for an emergency summit on Ukraine. Many European nations are increasingly concerned that Washington’s efforts to strike a deal with Russia might leave them sidelined.
