Tornado Watch Issued for Alabama as Severe Storms Threaten Overnight
Hey everyone, we’re tracking some serious weather moving into Alabama tonight, and it’s time to stay alert. A Tornado Watch has been issued for multiple counties across the state, lasting until 4 a.m. This means conditions are favorable for tornadoes, strong winds, and heavy rain. If you’re in one of the affected areas, now is the time to make sure you have a reliable way to receive warnings—especially since this is an overnight threat .
Let’s talk about what’s happening. A strong cold front is pushing into Alabama, bringing high winds and warm temperatures ahead of the storms. Saturday afternoon saw highs around 70 degrees , but as the front moves in, wind gusts could exceed 30 mph—even before the storms hit . Once the storms arrive, we could see gusts between 40 and 70 mph , which can cause damage and power outages.

The storm timeline starts after sunset Saturday and continues through early Sunday morning . West Alabama will feel the impacts first before the system pushes eastward. The greatest risk for tornadoes is in Southwest Alabama , including Sumter, Pickens, Marion, Greene, and Hale counties, but the entire state should be on alert .
We’re also watching for flooding concerns . The ground is already saturated from recent rainfall , so even a quick-moving storm could cause flash flooding . The Weather Prediction Center has placed much of Alabama under a marginal flooding risk for tonight.
If you’re in Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Shelby, Walker, Calhoun, or any of the other listed counties , make sure you have a way to receive alerts —whether through a weather radio, smartphone, or TV broadcast. This is especially critical since many of these storms will be hitting while people are asleep .
Remember: A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable, but a Tornado Warning means immediate action is needed . If a warning is issued in your area, seek shelter immediately in a sturdy, interior room away from windows .
Stay safe, Alabama. Keep an eye on the forecast, stay informed, and take precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones.
