Vancouver Braces for Deep Freeze with Temperatures Feeling Like -15°C
Hey everyone, if you haven’t already bundled up, now’s the time! Vancouver is in for a serious Arctic blast, and it’s about to get really cold. We’re talking temperatures that could feel as low as -15°C, thanks to a mix of strong outflow winds and a sharp drop in temperature.
The latest forecast warns of up to 30 cm of snowfall starting Sunday, February 2, and continuing into Monday. That’s a lot of snow for Metro Vancouver! The cold front is a result of Arctic air clashing with a moist Pacific system, bringing heavy snow followed by a deep freeze. And here’s the kicker: once the snow falls, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Environment Canada meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau says temperatures will drop well below the seasonal average. On Monday night, we’re expecting a low of -5°C, while the normal for this time of year is around 1°C. By Tuesday, it’ll get even colder, with overnight temperatures plunging to -7°C. But when you factor in those strong Arctic winds sweeping in from the Fraser Valley, it’s going to feel like -10°C or even -15°C in some areas.
If you’re in the Lower Mainland, get ready for some serious winter conditions. The cold air isn’t just bringing snow—it’s also bringing dry but unseasonably cold weather that could last several days. A high-pressure system moving in after Monday will keep things chilly but clear, with a mix of sun and cloud through midweek.
So, what does this all mean for you? Well, if you haven’t already, make sure you’ve got your winter gear ready. Hats, gloves, scarves—layer up! If you’re driving, be extra cautious. Snow and ice could make roads tricky, and freezing temperatures mean it won’t be melting quickly. Also, check in on any vulnerable friends, family, or neighbors who might need extra help during this cold snap.
Stay safe, stay warm, and keep an eye on the forecast for updates. Vancouver doesn’t see this kind of cold often, so let’s be prepared!
