Waratahs Edge Out Drua in Another Super Rugby Thriller
What a game! The Waratahs have done it again, pulling off a heart-stopping 29-24 victory over the Fijian Drua in what can only be described as an absolute Super Rugby classic. This match had everything—big hits, dramatic lead changes, and a chaotic finish that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Early on, the Waratahs looked strong, building a solid lead and showing their dominance with a well-structured attack. At one point, they were up 22-12 and seemed to have the game under control. But, as always, the Drua had other plans. They fought back hard, using their signature free-flowing style to punch holes in the Waratahs’ defense. In just a few minutes, they crossed the try line twice, flipping the script and taking the lead 24-22.

With time running out, the Waratahs needed something special, and they got it—through a crucial penalty try awarded in the 76th minute. The Drua’s Kitione Salawa was sent to the sin bin, and just like that, the Waratahs were back in front, 29-24. In a bizarre twist, the Drua even managed to take a quick restart and sprint away for what looked like a last-minute try—only for the referee to call play back, ruling their kick-off invalid. Talk about chaos!
Despite a last-minute surge from the Drua, the Waratahs held on, securing their second consecutive win of the season—something they haven’t done since 2014. It wasn’t pretty, and they’ll know there’s plenty to improve on, but a win is a win.
For the Drua, it’s another heartbreaking loss, their third narrow defeat in as many rounds. They played with incredible energy and heart, but just couldn’t get over the line. The Fijian side continues to impress, proving they can go toe-to-toe with the best, but they’ll be desperate to turn close losses into victories.
