Wilfrid Laurier University Shuts Down Due to Severe Weather
Hey everyone, if you’re a student or staff member at Wilfrid Laurier University, heads up—campuses are closed today, Thursday, February 13, due to extreme weather conditions. That means all in-person and online classes, events, and meetings scheduled for today are officially canceled. The university will reopen tomorrow, Friday, February 14, at 6 a.m.
If you were planning to head to the campus library in Waterloo, you’ll need to make alternative plans because it's also closed. Only essential staff are required to be on-site, while others are expected to work remotely if possible. And if you had an exam scheduled for today, don’t stress—any in-person or online exams, including midterms, will be rescheduled by the Office of the Registrar.

This closure follows an early shutdown yesterday, February 12, when Laurier announced at 5:30 p.m. that all evening classes and activities were canceled due to worsening weather. It looks like the storm has carried over into today, prompting a full-day closure.
For students who had assignments due today, deadlines are automatically extended to the next available weekday when the university reopens—so no need to panic about late submissions. If you’re a staff member or student who needs accommodations due to school closures or other storm-related disruptions, make sure to check in with your supervisor or instructor to sort things out.
Even though in-person services are suspended, online university services remain accessible. So, if you need to get some academic work done, you can still access your resources remotely.
For any emergency situations on campus, you can reach out to Laurier’s Special Constable Service at 519-885-3333. And if you need more updates, be sure to check the Campus Status Page on the university’s website.
Stay safe, everyone, and hopefully, the weather clears up soon!
