Arsenal vs PSV – Gunners Aim to Seal Quarter-Final Spot in Style
Arsenal take on PSV Eindhoven in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie, with one foot already in the quarter-finals after a dominant 7-1 victory in the first leg. The Gunners dismantled their Dutch opposition in Eindhoven, leaving PSV with little more than pride to play for in this return fixture at the Emirates Stadium.
Despite the heavy first-leg defeat, PSV will be desperate to restore some dignity and show that they are better than the performance they put in last week. Their manager, Peter Bosz, has emphasized the importance of making this a real contest and proving their quality on the biggest stage. “Everyone who was on the field last week doesn't want to go through what happened again,” he said. “We're motivated to make this a real game.”
For Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has taken the opportunity to rotate his squad, making seven changes from their weekend draw against Manchester United. Ben White gets his first start since November following knee surgery, while Myles Lewis-Skelly and Jakub Kiwior come into the backline. Declan Rice remains in midfield, joined by captain-for-the-night Jorginho and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Raheem Sterling leads the attack, supported by Kieran Tierney and Mikel Merino.

The match kicked off with Arsenal in control, but PSV showed early signs of fight. Zinchenko opened the scoring for the Gunners, finishing a slick move orchestrated by Sterling. Declan Rice then doubled Arsenal’s lead with a well-timed header, once again set up by Sterling, who was proving to be a creative force on the night. However, PSV responded with a moment of brilliance, as Couhaib Driouech lofted a delightful chip over David Raya to pull one back for the visitors, making it 2-1.
With the game flowing end-to-end, Arsenal’s defense was tested as PSV sought an equalizer. A miscommunication between White and Kiwior allowed Driouech another sight on goal, and he made no mistake, bringing the score level at 2-2. Despite the equalizer, the Gunners remained in firm control of the tie with their commanding aggregate lead.
In the final moments, Sterling nearly capped his excellent performance with a goal of his own, but his shot was saved by PSV’s keeper. Arsenal introduced fresh legs, with Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Martinelli coming on to see out the match. Despite PSV’s late push, the Gunners comfortably progressed to the quarter-finals.
With a 9-3 aggregate victory, Arsenal now await their next opponent in what promises to be a thrilling final stretch of their European campaign. The Emirates crowd celebrated another step forward in their Champions League journey, and with key players returning to form, the Gunners look well-equipped to take on the best teams in Europe in the next round.
