Canadiens Face Tough Reality After Crushing Loss to Blues
Well, that was a rough one for the Montreal Canadiens. into St. Louis, both the Canadiens and Blues were two of the hottest teams in the NHL since the Four Nations break, each fighting to solidify their playoff positions. But on Tuesday night, it was all Blues. Montreal suffered a humbling 6-1 loss, and it was clear from the get-go that they were outmatched in every aspect of the game.
Right from the opening minutes, the Canadiens found themselves on the back foot. The Blues dominated early, racking up the first 11 shots on goal before Montreal could even register one. The Habs were slow, out of sync, and second-best in every battle for the puck. It just wasn’t their night, and St. Louis took full advantage.

On the other side, the Blues put on a clinic. Philip Broberg and Robert Thomas each had four-point nights, while Jordan Kyrou, Dylan Holloway, Alexandre Texier, and Zack Bolduc all found the back of the net. St. Louis extended their league-best winning streak to seven games, moving them further up the Western Conference standings.
Montreal’s goaltender Samuel Montembeault struggled, allowing five goals on 32 shots before being pulled for Jakub Dobes in the third period. But it wasn’t just goaltending—the entire team looked out of sync. Defensive breakdowns, failed clears, and a lack of offensive pressure made it impossible for the Habs to compete.
Now, Montreal has to regroup quickly. They’re still in a playoff spot, but losses like this can shake a team’s confidence. Next up is a trip to Philadelphia on Thursday, and they’ll need a much better effort if they want to keep their postseason dreams alive. The good news? Kaiden Guhle is traveling with the team and could make his return soon. His presence could be a big boost to the Canadiens' defense.
For now, though, this one is best left in the rearview mirror. The Canadiens have work to do, and they’ll need to bounce back fast if they want to keep their season alive.
