Coca-Cola Recalls UK Products Over Health Concerns

Hey everyone, we've got some breaking news in the food and beverage world. Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has just announced a product recall in the UK due to a potential health risk. If you're someone who regularly enjoys Coca-Cola products, you might want to pay attention to this.

So, what's going on? Well, CCEP is recalling specific batches of its drinks because they may contain elevated levels of chlorate, a chemical that, in large amounts, could be harmful—especially to people with iodine deficiencies or those sensitive to chlorate. The recall affects a small quantity of imported cans of Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke, and Sprite Zero, as well as certain multipacks of Appletiser.

Now, before you start checking every can in your fridge, let me clarify—the recall is limited to taller cans that were distributed to cafes and restaurants in the UK for a short period. These cans have best-before dates of 30 November 2025, 31 May 2025, and 30 June 2025, and specific production codes ranging from 328 GE to 338 GE. As for the Appletiser multipacks, they have best-before dates of 30 November 2025 and 31 December 2025 and were only sold in UK supermarkets.

Coca-Cola wants to assure customers that the vast majority of their products, including regular-sized cans and all glass and plastic bottles sold in the UK, are not affected. They've been in discussions with the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which has assessed the overall risk as low. However, for consumers with pre-existing medical conditions, there's still a potential for adverse health effects.

If you think you have one of the affected products, Coca-Cola is advising you to contact their customer service team at 0800 227711. They’ll guide you on the next steps and provide reassurance.

Coca-Cola has expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing that product quality and safety are their top priorities. While the likelihood of illness is minimal, they’ve taken this step to ensure consumer safety.

In related food safety news, a batch of Rude Health chocolate granola has also been recalled due to insect contamination. So, if you’re buying groceries, keep an eye out for these recalls.

That’s all for now, but if any updates come through, we’ll keep you posted. Stay safe and check those cans before you sip!
