Exciting news from the AFL world—Collingwood captain Darcy Moore has officially been appointed as the President of the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA). Taking over from Patrick Dangerfield, who has held the position since 2018, Moore steps into this prestigious role after serving on the AFLPA Board since 2021 and spending the past year as Co-Vice President. His leadership qualities, dedication to the game, and strong player advocacy have now positioned him at the forefront of representing his fellow players on crucial industry matters.

Collingwood Football Club proudly congratulated their skipper on his elevation to this role, with CEO Craig Kelly commending Moore’s leadership both on and off the field. “Darcy is an outstanding leader and highly respected throughout the league. His appointment as AFLPA President is a testament to his character and the respect he commands among his peers,” said Kelly. “He is an excellent ambassador for our club, and we have no doubt he will make a meaningful impact in this position.”

Moore himself expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the strong legacy left by Dangerfield. “Patrick has been an incredible leader for our association, guiding us through significant changes and challenges. I’m honored to follow in his footsteps and continue the work to strengthen player unity and advocate for the best interests of all players,” Moore stated.

He also emphasized his commitment to working towards the next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in 2027, ensuring players’ voices remain at the center of AFL’s progress. His appointment reflects the trust and belief the playing group has in his ability to navigate key industry discussions, particularly at a time when player welfare, contract negotiations, and game development are at the forefront.

Dangerfield, now stepping down from his role but remaining on the Board, shared his confidence in Moore’s leadership. “It’s been a great honor to serve as AFLPA President, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished—steering players through the pandemic, securing key agreements, and ensuring growth for both AFL and AFLW. I have no doubt that Darcy will continue this momentum and take the association to new heights.”

With Moore at the helm, the AFLPA is set to enter an exciting phase, driven by a leader who has already demonstrated immense dedication to both his club and the broader AFL community. His passion for the game and advocacy for player rights position him as a strong and influential voice in shaping the future of the sport.
