Eid Al Fitr 2025: Holiday Announcements Across GCC Nations
Eid Al Fitr 2025 is just around the corner, and millions of Muslims across the world are eagerly anticipating this joyous occasion. In the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar—the official holiday dates have been announced, bringing much excitement to both public and private sector employees. But, as always, the exact date of Eid depends on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon.
Authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE have urged residents to actively participate in the moon sighting on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025. If the crescent is spotted, Eid will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30. However, astronomical calculations indicate that sighting the moon on this date will not be possible, as it is expected to set before the sun. This means that Ramadan will likely complete 30 days, making Monday, March 31, the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

Each GCC country has outlined its holiday schedule. In the UAE, private sector employees will enjoy a break from March 30 to April 1, with an extension to April 2 if Ramadan lasts 30 days. Federal government employees will observe Eid holidays from 1st to 3rd Shawwal, with work resuming on 4th Shawwal. Saudi Arabia has announced a four-day holiday for private sector employees, starting from the end of the workday on March 29.
In Oman, the government has declared holidays starting March 29, with work resuming either on April 2 or April 6, depending on the moon sighting. Kuwait has a flexible schedule, offering a three-to-five-day holiday based on when Eid officially begins. Qatar stands out with an extended break from March 30 to April 7 for government employees, effectively giving many an 11-day holiday when factoring in weekends. Bahrain, on the other hand, has confirmed a three-day public sector holiday covering Eid day and the two days following.
Eid Al Fitr is not just about holidays—it’s a time of prayer, charity, and celebration with loved ones. Families gather for festive meals, children receive gifts known as "Eidi," and communities come together to mark the end of a month of fasting and reflection.
As the excitement builds, all eyes are now on the Shawwal moon. Will Eid fall on March 30 or March 31? That remains to be confirmed, but one thing is certain—Eid Al Fitr 2025 will be a time of joy, gratitude, and togetherness for millions across the region and beyond.
