Elizabeth Olsen Opens Up About Her Bond with Mary-Kate and Ashley
When it comes to Hollywood siblings, few are as iconic as the Olsen sisters. Elizabeth Olsen, best known for her role as Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has always maintained a close yet relatively private relationship with her older twin sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley. However, in a recent interview, she shared rare insights into their bond, giving fans a glimpse into what it was like growing up with two of the most famous twins in the entertainment industry.
Elizabeth, who is only two years younger than Mary-Kate and Ashley, recently appeared on Today With Jenna & Friends and couldn’t help but express her admiration for the twins. She spoke about how she loved being the youngest among the three and how she always looked up to her older sisters. “I really admire the partnership that Mary-Kate and Ashley have,” she said. “It’s something unique, and I don’t compete with it. I think it’s really interesting to watch.”

Reflecting on her childhood, Elizabeth explained that having twin sisters was always an advantage. In a previous interview with Harper’s Bazaar , she revealed, “I felt very clear about how I was going to navigate a lot of things because of watching them. I also felt very protected.” Their age gap was small, and despite the twins' close bond, she never felt like a third wheel. Instead, she described feeling lucky to be a part of their unique connection. “There’s something I’ll never experience—being a twin—but I feel lucky to witness it,” she shared.
Interestingly, despite her admiration for her sisters, Elizabeth once considered dropping the Olsen name. She contemplated using her middle name, Chase, to avoid being seen as riding on her sisters' coattails. “I was 10 when I started auditioning, and I quickly realized I didn’t want to be associated with them,” she admitted in an interview with Glamour UK . At such a young age, she already had an understanding of nepotism, even if she didn’t know the word for it. However, in the end, she embraced her last name and built a successful career on her own terms.
While Mary-Kate and Ashley were childhood stars, transitioning from acting into the world of fashion, Elizabeth took a different path, pursuing serious acting roles and establishing herself as a formidable talent. The twins have since stepped away from the spotlight, choosing a more private life, while Elizabeth continues to thrive in Hollywood.
Although they haven’t shared the screen much, their bond remains strong. Elizabeth has never hidden the deep admiration she has for her sisters, and despite their different career paths, their love and support for one another remain unshakable.
