Jasmine Crockett Under Fire for Mocking Texas Governor’s Disability
Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has found herself at the center of controversy after remarks she made during a recent Human Rights Campaign event. During her speech, Crockett referred to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as "Governor Hot Wheels," an apparent reference to his use of a wheelchair. The comment has sparked widespread criticism, with calls for censure and even expulsion from Republican lawmakers and conservative figures.
Governor Greg Abbott has been paraplegic since the age of 26 due to a tragic accident in which a falling oak tree crushed his spine while he was jogging. Despite this, he has built a successful political career and has served as the governor of Texas since 2015. Crockett’s remarks, however, have been perceived as a tasteless attack on Abbott’s disability rather than a critique of his policies.

Following her comments, Rep. Randy Weber, a Republican from Texas, swiftly moved to introduce a resolution to censure Crockett, condemning her for what he described as "despicable political attacks." Conservative voices, including Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk and activist Laura Loomer, also weighed in, labeling her remarks as offensive and unbecoming of a sitting member of Congress. Kirk did not hold back, calling her "trash" in a social media post, while Loomer accused Crockett of promoting violence against her political opponents.
The backlash has extended beyond just Abbott’s allies. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who has clashed with Crockett over her previous statements regarding Elon Musk, warned her to "tread carefully," asserting that her words could have serious consequences. Meanwhile, some Republican lawmakers have called for her expulsion, arguing that such rhetoric has no place in Congress.
Crockett has not issued an apology for her remarks but has instead doubled down on her stance, dismissing the criticism as an overreaction from political adversaries. Her supporters argue that she was merely using humor to highlight what she sees as Abbott’s failures as governor. However, many believe that targeting someone’s physical disability crosses a line, regardless of political affiliation.
