Jason Gillespie Slams Aaqib Javed, Calls Him "A Clown"
Former Pakistan Test head coach Jason Gillespie has ignited a fresh controversy in Pakistan cricket by publicly criticizing his successor, Aaqib Javed. In a scathing social media post, Gillespie accused Aaqib of undermining him and former white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, allegedly working behind the scenes to take over their roles. The Australian cricket legend didn't hold back, calling Aaqib "a clown" and blaming him for Pakistan's ongoing struggles.
This drama unfolded just months after both Gillespie and Kirsten resigned from their positions. The duo had been appointed in April 2024, but their tenure was short-lived, with Kirsten stepping down in October and Gillespie following suit in December. Aaqib, who was initially the chief selector, eventually took charge of the team as the head coach across all formats.

The situation escalated after Aaqib addressed Pakistan’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy, where they failed to secure a single victory. Speaking to the media, Aaqib pointed to the instability within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), highlighting that the team had gone through 16 coaches and 26 selectors in just two and a half years. According to him, such frequent changes would disrupt any team’s performance.
Gillespie, however, wasn't buying this explanation. He fired back on social media, mocking Aaqib’s statement and alleging that he had deliberately worked against him and Kirsten to secure the coaching position. "This is hilarious. Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and me behind the scenes, campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown," wrote Gillespie.
Aaqib has not yet responded to Gillespie’s accusations, and the PCB has remained silent on the matter. However, this latest controversy adds to the ongoing turbulence in Pakistan cricket. With the national team already under fire for their disappointing performances, this public spat between two former coaches only deepens the crisis.
Pakistan's early exit from the Champions Trophy was a major blow, and Aaqib's comments seemed like an attempt to shift the blame to PCB’s management rather than taking responsibility. But with Gillespie exposing what he believes was a calculated power move, the drama surrounding Pakistan cricket continues to unfold.
For now, all eyes are on how Aaqib Javed and the PCB will respond to these allegations. One thing is certain—Pakistan cricket remains as unpredictable off the field as it is on the pitch.
