Kalen Ballage Makes UFL History with Electrifying 77-Yard Touchdown Run
The United Football League (UFL) is officially in full swing, and what a start it has been! If you thought spring football would ease in quietly, think again. The opening games of the season have already given us some standout performances, none more electrifying than what we saw from Kalen Ballage of the Arlington Renegades.
Ballage set the field on fire with a jaw-dropping 77-yard touchdown run that not only secured his place in the league’s record books but also fueled the Renegades to a dominant 33-9 victory over the San Antonio Brahmas. It was the longest rushing touchdown in UFL history—though, to be fair, the league in its current form is still relatively new, having only played 45 games since the XFL and USFL merged. Still, that doesn’t take away from the sheer explosiveness of the play. Ballage showcased speed, power, and vision as he broke through defenders and sprinted to the end zone, leaving the crowd in awe.
For those unfamiliar with his journey, Kalen Ballage is no stranger to professional football. He spent four seasons in the NFL from 2018 to 2021, playing for teams like the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Los Angeles Chargers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Over that time, he racked up 665 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Though his time in the NFL eventually came to an end, Ballage is proving that his career is far from over. If anything, his recent performance suggests he might just be getting started again.

It wasn’t just Ballage making waves in this game. Former NFL quarterback Kellen Mond, now with the Brahmas, had a tough outing, completing 17 of 31 passes for 159 yards and adding 19 rushing yards. Despite his efforts, San Antonio struggled offensively and couldn’t keep up with the relentless Renegades. The game was part of an action-packed opening weekend for the UFL, which saw another lopsided result the night before when the St. Louis Battlehawks crushed the Houston Roughnecks 31-6.
One of the biggest takeaways from the weekend, aside from Ballage’s incredible performance, was the fan turnout. Over 10,000 people were in attendance for Saturday’s game, marking a notable increase compared to the 7,000 who showed up for Friday’s season opener in Houston. It’s an encouraging sign that interest in the UFL is growing, even in a sports landscape that’s currently packed with competition.
With the first weekend wrapping up, all eyes will be on the league’s ratings and overall reception. The UFL is battling for attention in a crowded sports market, but performances like Ballage’s can help the league carve out a place for itself. There’s something exciting about watching players who still have plenty to prove, and the UFL is giving them that stage.
As for Ballage, his breakout performance could very well put him back on the radar of NFL teams looking for depth at the running back position. If he continues to dominate this season, don’t be surprised if he gets another shot in the big leagues. Until then, he’s making the most of his opportunity and delivering some of the most thrilling moments of the young UFL season.
Stay tuned—this could be just the beginning.
