Knicks' Jalen Brunson Suffers Ankle Injury in OT Loss to Lakers

What a tough break for the Knicks! Last night’s game against the Lakers had everything—drama, intensity, and unfortunately, a devastating injury. New York’s star guard Jalen Brunson went down late in overtime, rolling his right ankle after landing on Lakers guard Austin Reaves' foot. It happened with just 1:24 left in OT, right after Brunson was fouled on a drive to the basket.

Even in pain, Brunson showed incredible toughness. He got up, stayed in the game long enough to sink two crucial free throws that tied the game at 107, and then headed straight to the locker room. The Knicks ultimately fell short, losing 113-109 in a nail-biter at Crypto.com Arena.

Brunson had been absolutely electric all night, dropping 39 points and dishing out 10 assists. He was the heart of the Knicks’ offense, even forcing overtime with a clutch three-point play in the fourth quarter. Coach Tom Thibodeau praised his resilience, saying, “His mental toughness is through the roof.”

But now, the Knicks are left facing a brutal reality—Brunson is expected to miss time, and the timing couldn’t be worse. The team just kicked off a grueling five-game West Coast road trip, with tough matchups against the Clippers, Kings, Blazers, and Warriors still ahead. At 40-22, New York is holding onto third place in the Eastern Conference, but missing their top scorer and playmaker could be a serious challenge.

Teammates know they have to step up. Forward Josh Hart called it a “bummer of an injury,” but stressed that the team has to keep pushing forward. Center Karl-Anthony Towns echoed that sentiment, saying, “It’s next man up. We’ve been playing with grit, and we have to do it again.”

The Knicks will need every ounce of that grit to stay competitive while Brunson recovers. This season has been all about resilience for New York, and now, they face yet another test. Let’s see how they respond.
