Massive Ice Storm Leaves Hundreds of Thousands Without Power in Ontario
What a chaotic weekend it has been for Ontario and surrounding regions! The city of Orillia has officially declared a state of emergency as freezing rain continues to hammer the area, causing widespread damage. Similar scenes are playing out in Peterborough, where authorities have also declared a state of emergency. The sheer number of emergency calls—over 1,000 in just 24 hours—highlights the storm’s devastating impact.
With many people left in the cold and in the dark, warming centers have been set up across the affected regions. These facilities provide temporary relief for those without heat or power, but the struggle is far from over. Schools in several districts will remain closed on Monday due to ongoing power outages and dangerous road conditions.
