Measles Exposure Alert: Stay Informed and Stay Safe

Hey everyone, I want to take a moment to talk about something important—measles. Recently, CK Public Health has confirmed three new locations of possible measles exposure in Chatham-Kent. If you’ve been around St. Clair Street recently, this is something you should definitely pay attention to.

Here’s what we know: Two of these exposure incidents happened at Shoppers Drug Mart, located at 416 St. Clair St. The first case was on March 18, between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the second happened the very next day, March 19, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Then, just a few days ago, on March 25, another exposure was reported at Food Basics at 448 St. Clair St. between 3:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. These follow two other reported exposures in Wallaceburg, which were announced earlier in the week.

If you were at any of these locations during the specified times and you’re not up to date with your vaccinations, CK Public Health is urging you to give them a call at 519-352-7270, extension 5902. It’s always better to check and be safe.

Now, let’s talk about symptoms. Measles typically starts with fever, runny nose, cough, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. But what really sets it apart is the rash—it usually appears three to seven days after these initial symptoms start, beginning on the face and then spreading down the body. If you’re experiencing any of these signs and need to visit a doctor, emergency room, or walk-in clinic, officials ask that you call ahead first. Let them know about your symptoms and the possible exposure to help prevent further spread.

Measles is highly contagious but also preventable with vaccines. If you’re unsure about your vaccination status, now is the perfect time to check and make sure you’re protected. Stay informed, take precautions, and let’s work together to keep our community safe!
