New Zealand Crushes Pakistan in Dominant T20 Victory
What a game that was! New Zealand absolutely dominated Pakistan in the opening T20 match of the series at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. It was a match to remember for the Kiwis, as they completely outplayed their opponents, securing a massive nine-wicket victory.
Pakistan, playing under their new captain Salman Agha for the first time, had a nightmare start. Their top order crumbled under pressure, with both Mohammad Haris and Hasan Nawaz getting out for ducks. The team found themselves in deep trouble at 3-3 after just three overs and slumped further to 14-4 by the end of the powerplay. Only three Pakistani batters managed to get into double figures, with Khushdil Shah putting up a lone fight, scoring 32 off 30 balls. However, that was nowhere near enough to challenge the hosts.

The standout performers with the ball for New Zealand were Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy, who tore through Pakistan’s lineup. Jamieson was sensational, picking up three wickets for just eight runs, his best-ever figures in T20 internationals. Duffy was equally destructive, finishing with figures of 4-14. The Pakistani innings folded at a mere 91 runs in 18.4 overs—their lowest-ever T20 total in New Zealand.
Chasing a modest target of 92, New Zealand wasted no time in getting the job done. Opener Tim Seifert led the charge with an aggressive 44 off 29 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Finn Allen and Tim Robinson finished the job in style with an unbeaten 39-run partnership, sealing the victory in just 10.1 overs.
This win gives New Zealand a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, and with such a dominant performance, they will be looking to carry this momentum forward. Pakistan, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly before the second T20 in Dunedin on Tuesday. Will they bounce back, or will New Zealand continue their dominance? We’ll find out soon enough!
