Oilers' Stuart Skinner Exits After Collision with Stars’ Mikko Rantanen
Wow, what a tough break for the Edmonton Oilers in their game against the Dallas Stars. Goaltender Stuart Skinner had to leave the game in the third period after a scary collision with Dallas forward Mikko Rantanen. This was a moment that had everyone holding their breath, as Skinner went down hard and stayed on the ice for a while before being helped off.
It all happened when Rantanen was charging toward the net, chasing the puck with intensity. In the process, he collided with Skinner, catching him on the head. The impact left Skinner face-down on the ice, prompting immediate attention from the Oilers' training staff. You could see the concern from both teams as he was evaluated before making his way straight to the dressing room. Calvin Pickard was called in to replace him at the 6:34 mark of the third period.

Before exiting, Skinner had made 17 saves on 21 shots. This season, he has been a key part of the Oilers' lineup, playing in 48 games and posting a 24-17-4 record with a 2.87 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage. Losing him, especially at this crucial stage of the season, is a big concern for Edmonton.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch addressed the situation postgame, stating that Skinner is not expected to travel with the team to Seattle for their upcoming game against the Kraken. This comes at a challenging time for the Oilers, as they’re already dealing with injuries to star players Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Edmonton is currently third in the Pacific Division with 87 points, trailing the Los Angeles Kings by just two points for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
This isn’t the first time Skinner has had to leave a game recently. Just last week, he was pulled late in the third period against the Winnipeg Jets due to a concussion spotter’s decision. Given the back-to-back incidents, the Oilers will need to be extra cautious with his recovery.
As the playoff race heats up, losing key players at this stage can be a huge setback. The Oilers will need Pickard and the rest of the team to step up in Skinner’s absence. It remains to be seen how long he’ll be out, but for now, Edmonton fans are hoping for a speedy recovery for their goaltender. Stay tuned for updates as the Oilers push toward the postseason!
