Passengers Evacuate Onto Plane Wing After Engine Catches Fire
Imagine this—you’re on a flight, expecting a routine journey, and suddenly, smoke fills the cabin, and the crew is instructing you to evacuate immediately. This terrifying reality unfolded on an American Airlines flight bound for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, had taken off from Colorado Springs but was forced to make an emergency landing at Denver International Airport after the crew reported "engine vibrations." It seemed like the worst was over when the plane safely touched down, but just moments later, while taxiing on the tarmac, one of the engines caught fire.

Passengers were evacuated swiftly, some using inflatable slides while others found themselves standing on the plane’s wing. Footage from the airport showed a dramatic scene—thick black smoke rising from the aircraft and flames burning near the engine. Ground crew members rushed to assist, carrying ladders to help passengers get off the wing and onto the tarmac.
Miraculously, all 172 passengers and six crew members escaped without injury. American Airlines later confirmed that the fire was due to an "engine-related issue" but didn’t provide further details. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation to determine what caused the failure.
Witnesses inside the airport described the panic as they saw the flames and passengers scrambling to evacuate. Some travelers captured videos of the ordeal, sharing them on social media. One passenger waiting for a connecting flight in Denver said she was “terrified” watching the fire from the terminal, unable to imagine what those on board were going through.
This incident comes amid growing concerns about aviation safety, following a series of recent accidents. Just weeks ago, a Delta Air Lines flight crashed in Toronto, and earlier this year, a tragic mid-air collision in Washington D.C. claimed dozens of lives. With safety questions mounting, investigations into these incidents will be crucial in preventing future tragedies.
For now, American Airlines is working to accommodate affected passengers, providing an alternative flight to Dallas. But for those on board Flight 1006, this is an experience they will never forget.
