Power Outages Scheduled in Prince George: What You Need to Know

Hey everyone, if you're in Prince George or nearby areas, listen up because this is important! BC Hydro has announced a series of planned power outages over the next few days to carry out essential system maintenance and pole replacements. That means thousands of homes will be temporarily without electricity. So, if you’re in the affected areas, you’ll want to prepare accordingly.

The biggest outages will happen on Sunday night, March 30, starting at 7 p.m., and will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, March 31. This will impact nearly 15,000 homes across Prince George and surrounding communities like Beaverly, Hoferkamp, Miworth, Ness Lake, and Willow River.

If you were initially notified about the outage but recently received a call or postcard from BC Hydro, that means your power won’t be affected anymore. However, for those who are still on the list, BC Hydro has started sending out a second round of notifications. So, if you haven’t heard otherwise, assume that your power will be going out as planned.

Besides the big outage on Sunday, there are two additional outages scheduled for Friday, March 28. One will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon, affecting areas like Avril Road and Westview Road. Another one from 9 a.m. to noon will impact Buckhorn Lake Road, Doyle Road, and nearby areas. And, looking ahead, there’s another outage set for April 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for homes on Francois Crescent and Jarvis Street.

So, what does this mean for you? If you’re in the affected areas, now’s the time to charge up your devices, prepare backup lighting, and plan ahead for any disruptions. If you rely on medical equipment that needs power, be sure to have a backup plan in place. And, of course, it’s always a good idea to keep some extra food and water handy.
