
Remembering Jan Schwieterman: A Life Cut Short by Aggressive Cancer
Today, we remember and mourn the loss of Jan Schwieterman, the beloved actor known for his role as Kurt Bozwell in Good Burger . Jan passed away at the age of 52 after a brief yet intense battle with stage 4 cancer. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news, leaving fans and colleagues in shock.
Jan’s passing came unexpectedly. He was only recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, and sadly, the disease progressed quickly. He took his last breath on February 28 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri. His brother, Chad Schwieterman, shared the devastating update on Facebook, expressing the family's grief and requesting thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Fans and friends have since poured out their tributes. Many described Jan as a bright spirit, a free soul who left a lasting impact on everyone he met. One person wrote, "So shocked and saddened. Thanks for sharing those memories in pictures." Another shared, "He was a light."

Jan’s journey in entertainment began when he moved to Los Angeles after high school to chase his dreams. Before his Hollywood breakthrough, he was a proud Eagle Scout. His acting career included appearances in ER , Forever , McKenna , and Felicity . However, it was Good Burger that made him a recognizable face. Playing the villainous Kurt Bozwell, the owner of a rival fast-food restaurant, he starred alongside Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell in the Nickelodeon cult classic.
Despite his success, Jan took a step back from acting in the early 2000s. His final film credit came in 2008 with Along the Way . Outside of acting, he was an adventurous soul—traveling to many countries, most recently Thailand. He had a deep love for photography, painting, martial arts, and even Dungeons and Dragons.
Jan is survived by his mother, Clara Reed, father, LeeRoy Schwieterman, siblings Megan, Vanessa, and Chad, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial mass was held in his honor on March 4, where loved ones gathered to celebrate his life and legacy.
Though he may be gone, Jan Schwieterman’s impact remains. His work, his adventurous spirit, and the love he shared with those around him will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Jan.
