Today, we remember Oliver Miller, a name that holds a special place in the history of the Toronto Raptors. The former NBA center, who was part of the Raptors' inaugural 1995-96 season, has sadly passed away at the age of 54. His passing was announced by the Raptors, who honored his memory with a moment of silence before their game against the Philadelphia 76ers at Scotiabank Arena.

Known affectionately as "The Big O," Miller made a significant impact on the court. Standing at six-foot-nine and weighing 280 pounds, he was a formidable presence in the paint. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Miller had a stellar college career with the Arkansas Razorbacks before being drafted 22nd overall in the first round of the 1992 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. Over the course of his nine-season NBA career, he played for the Suns, Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, and Sacramento Kings, averaging 7.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game across 492 appearances.

Miller's time in Toronto was particularly memorable. He played for the Raptors in two separate stints from 1995 to 1998, leaving a lasting impact as a fan favorite. During the Raptors' inaugural season, he delivered career-high numbers, averaging 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, showcasing his skills and leadership on the young expansion team. He was also the last pick in the 1995 expansion draft, moving from the Pistons to help build the foundation of Toronto's basketball legacy.

The Raptors organization expressed their sorrow in a heartfelt statement, saying, "The Toronto Raptors are saddened to learn of the passing of Oliver Miller. He holds a special place in our history as a member of our inaugural team in 1995, and we are so grateful for all his contributions. We send our deepest condolences to the Miller family."

Former NBA player Eddie Johnson, now a broadcaster for the Phoenix Suns, also shared his grief, saying, "I am so sad to report we have lost another NBA fraternity member! Nine-year veteran Oliver Miller has passed away at age 54. Going to miss you, Big O. RIP."
