RuneScape: Dragonwilds – A New Survival Game in the RuneScape Universe
The world of RuneScape is expanding once again, but this time it’s venturing into the open-world survival genre. Jagex has revealed RuneScape: Dragonwilds , an exciting new spinoff that promises a fresh twist on the beloved universe of their long-running MMORPG. Set to launch in early access on Steam in Spring 2025, Dragonwilds takes players to the mysterious and uncharted continent of Ashenfall, a land where dragons have awoken, and survival is key.

This new title leans into the open-world, survival, and crafting genres, drawing comparisons to games like Valheim , Ark , and Minecraft . In Dragonwilds , players can explore, build, craft, and fight to survive. The game retains the spirit of RuneScape but introduces a modern look and feel, thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 5. It’s a mix of familiar RuneScape lore, fantasy magic, and exploration in a whole new context.
The gameplay revolves around surviving the harsh wilderness of Ashenfall. Players can team up with up to three friends or go it alone as they chop down trees, gather resources, and craft their own weapons and shelter. One of the highlights of the game is its focus on magic, with players harnessing a mysterious energy called Anima to help them survive and thrive in the untamed world. Combat in Dragonwilds sees players fighting against familiar creatures from the RuneScape universe, including goblins and other monsters, but the real challenge comes in facing down the mighty dragons that rule over the land.
As players explore Ashenfall, they will uncover ancient secrets, including powerful artifacts and new skills. The ultimate goal of the game is to defeat the dragon queen that has awoken on the continent, a task that will require strength, cunning, and teamwork. Jagex has promised that the game will offer plenty of quests, NPC interactions, and skill-building opportunities, all while encouraging players to shape their own adventures.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds offers a refreshing change from the typical MMORPG format, focusing on solo and co-op survival experiences in a massive, open world. It's not an MMO in the traditional sense, but it certainly keeps the spirit of RuneScape alive, offering both new and old fans a chance to dive into an immersive world full of danger, discovery, and dragons. Keep an eye out for this new release when it drops on Steam Early Access later this year!
