Shocking Knife Attack in Amsterdam Leaves Several Injured
A horrifying scene unfolded in the heart of Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon when a knife-wielding attacker went on a rampage, leaving five people injured. The incident took place near the famous Dam Square, a bustling area in the Dutch capital. Eyewitnesses were left in shock as chaos erupted in the middle of the city.
According to the police, two of the victims sustained severe injuries, while the attacker himself was wounded in the leg. Authorities were alerted to the incident around 4 PM, and within moments, law enforcement and emergency responders arrived at the scene. The assailant, reportedly a young man with short blond hair, was quickly subdued by a passerby before being arrested by the police. His motives remain unclear, and officials have not confirmed whether this was an act of terrorism or a random act of violence.
The victims include a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam, a 73-year-old Belgian woman, a 26-year-old Polish man, and two American tourists – a 67-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man. The rapid response of emergency services, including a rescue helicopter, ensured that the injured received immediate medical attention.

Eyewitness accounts paint a terrifying picture of the attack. A 24-year-old woman who was in the area recounted how she saw the attacker suddenly stab a woman before running towards Dam Square. "I was walking along Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal when I saw a man in a hood attack someone. I ran as fast as I could to escape. I was shaking—I could have been the victim," she said, still visibly distressed.
Another witness, a shop employee, described the horrifying moment when one of the victims was stabbed right in front of the Dutch Quilts store. "I heard a loud knock and then saw a girl being stabbed in the back. The attacker ran away immediately," he recalled.
The police sealed off the area, and businesses near the crime scene, including major retail stores like Primark, were temporarily shut down. Shaken bystanders gathered around, struggling to comprehend what had just happened.
Authorities are now investigating the background of the attacker, attempting to piece together what led to this shocking act of violence. Meanwhile, Amsterdam’s mayor, Femke Halsema, along with law enforcement and judicial representatives, held emergency discussions about the situation.
