Six Nations 2025: Who Will Claim the Championship?

The Six Nations Championship is heading into its most thrilling weekend yet, with Super Saturday set to decide who will lift the coveted trophy. Three teams are still realistically in the title race—France, England, and Ireland—while Scotland, though mathematically in contention, faces a near-impossible challenge.

France currently leads the standings and has their fate in their own hands. A bonus-point win against Scotland in Paris would guarantee them the championship. Even a regular victory without the bonus should be enough due to their superior points difference of +106 over England’s +20. If England and Ireland fail to secure maximum points, even a draw with a bonus point could see France crowned champions. They could even afford to lose, as long as other results go their way.

England’s chances rely heavily on France faltering. To claim their first title in five years, they must beat Wales with a bonus point and hope that France loses to Scotland. Even a win without a bonus might be enough if France does not secure a try-scoring bonus in their game. A draw or defeat with two bonus points could still see them take the title if France and Ireland both fail to secure bonus points in their matches.

Ireland, aiming for their third consecutive Six Nations title, needs to defeat Italy with a bonus point while hoping both France and England lose. However, if France earns just three points from a high-scoring draw against Scotland, Ireland's hopes could be dashed. A draw or defeat could still leave them in contention, but only if they finish with a better points difference over England and France.

Scotland’s path to glory is extremely difficult. They must defeat France with a bonus point and surpass them on points difference while ensuring that France earns no bonuses. In addition, they need England to lose to Wales while collecting no more than a single bonus point. If all that happens, Scotland must also have a better points difference than Ireland if the Irish secure two bonus points in their match against Italy.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Wales and Italy are locked in a battle to avoid the Wooden Spoon. Wales, who finished last in 2024, have secured three bonus points this year but remain at the bottom after four straight losses. Italy, with no bonus points but a win over Wales earlier in the tournament, currently holds a worse points difference. If Wales gains just one more match point than Italy, they should finish higher. However, if Italy defeats Ireland with a bonus point, they will avoid the Wooden Spoon regardless of what happens in Wales' match against England.

As Super Saturday approaches, the excitement builds. Will France continue their dominance and secure another title, or can England or Ireland stage a last-minute upset? Perhaps Scotland can pull off the unthinkable? One thing is for sure—rugby fans are in for an exhilarating weekend.
