Stars Look to Stay Hot as Trade Deadline Looms
With the NHL trade deadline just a day away, the Dallas Stars find themselves in an enviable position. They’re not just waiting to see what moves they might make—they’re also winning, a lot. Sitting third overall in the league standings with a 40-19-2 record and 82 points, the Stars are firmly in the buyer’s seat. But before Friday’s deadline drama unfolds, they have business to take care of on the ice as they host the Calgary Flames tonight at the American Airlines Center.
Puck drops at 7 p.m. CT, and the Stars will be looking to extend their dominance at home, where they’ve been nearly unbeatable with a 23-6-1 record. They’re coming off a thrilling 4-3 win against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, where defenseman Thomas Harley played hero, scoring the game-winner with just 4.8 seconds left. Roope Hintz continued his red-hot streak in that game with a goal and two assists, while Wyatt Johnston also found the back of the net, following up his hat trick performance against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

On the other side, the Calgary Flames (29-23-9) are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race but have been inconsistent. They’ve lost three of their last four games, although they’re coming off a solid 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, thanks to a two-goal effort from Connor Zary. The Flames are scrapping to secure a wild-card spot, and every game counts for them at this stage.
One player to keep an eye on tonight for Dallas is Mikael Granlund. Since arriving from San Jose, he’s yet to score his first goal in Victory Green, but he’s been productive with seven assists in nine games. Meanwhile, Roope Hintz has been on an absolute tear, racking up three goals and 11 assists in his last five outings. For Calgary, Nazem Kadri has been a bright spot, putting up five goals and 12 points in his last 11 games, including a goal and an assist against Philly.
With the deadline looming, there’s always an extra layer of intrigue. Could this be the last time we see this exact Stars lineup on the ice? Will Dallas make a move to bolster an already formidable roster? These questions will be answered soon enough, but for now, the focus is on securing two more points against a desperate Flames squad. Expect a high-energy matchup with plenty at stake for both teams.
