Tottenham's Europa League Dream Stays Alive as Odobert Shines!
What a night for Tottenham Hotspur! Spurs have secured their place in the Europa League quarter-finals after a thrilling 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar at home, overturning a first-leg deficit and keeping their European hopes alive. And the hero of the night? Wilson Odobert, who stepped up when it mattered most with a stunning brace to send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Coming into the game, Spurs knew they had to be better after a disappointing 1-0 loss in the Netherlands. The pressure was immense—sitting 13th in the Premier League and out of both domestic cups, this was their last shot at silverware this season. And from the first whistle, they showed they meant business.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Dominic Solanke found Odobert in space. The young forward, who joined from Burnley last summer, made no mistake, smashing the ball into the top corner to open his Spurs account in style. The stadium erupted—Tottenham were level on aggregate, and the comeback was on!

Early in the second half, Spurs turned up the heat. James Maddison, always the creative spark, exchanged a slick one-two with Son Heung-min before curling a brilliant effort into the net in the 48th minute. That goal put Spurs ahead in the tie, and it looked like they were cruising.
But this is Tottenham, and nothing ever comes easy. A mix-up between Odobert and Lucas Bergvall gifted AZ a way back, and Peer Koopmeiners capitalized with a composed finish in the 63rd minute. Just like that, it was 2-1 on the night and 2-2 on aggregate—nervous times for the home fans.
However, Odobert wasn’t done yet. He redeemed himself in spectacular fashion in the 74th minute, finishing off a stunning team move that started deep in Spurs’ half. A clever flick from Solanke set him up perfectly, and he tapped in from close range to restore Tottenham’s lead and ultimately win the tie.
AZ had their chances late on, with Troy Parrott and Mees de Wit both going close, but Spurs held firm. Guglielmo Vicario made a crucial save, and Yves Bissouma cleared off the line to ensure there would be no late drama.
With this hard-fought victory, Tottenham now look ahead to a quarter-final clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, who dispatched Ajax 6-2 on aggregate. Can Spurs keep their European dream alive? If Odobert and company play like they did tonight, anything is possible!
A huge moment for Spurs and a big sigh of relief for manager Ange Postecoglou. The journey continues!
