Trump Orders Airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthis, Warning of Severe Consequences
The United States has launched a powerful series of airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi-controlled areas, a move President Donald Trump describes as a decisive response to the group’s continued attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea. Trump has made it clear that these strikes are meant to protect American and allied forces, as well as to ensure the safety of global trade routes.
Speaking on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the Houthis of engaging in “piracy, violence, and terrorism” with the backing of Iran. According to him, their actions have not only put American troops and allies at risk but have also cost the global economy billions of dollars. The president did not mince words, stating that if the Houthis do not cease their attacks, they will face consequences unlike anything they have ever seen before.

The latest reports indicate that at least nine people have been killed and several others injured in the strikes. However, the Houthis remain defiant, stating that they will continue their assaults on commercial vessels, a campaign they claim is in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza. The group has been targeting ships traveling through the Red Sea, a crucial global trade route, particularly for oil and liquefied natural gas. While they initially claimed to attack vessels linked to Israel, many of their targets have had no direct connection.
Trump emphasized that the U.S. will not tolerate further disruptions in the Red Sea and made it clear that Iran, which has long been accused of supporting the Houthis, is “on notice.” He warned Tehran that Washington would hold it fully accountable if it continued backing the group. Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed Trump’s stance, reinforcing that Iran’s influence over the Houthis is a matter of serious concern.
This is not the first time the U.S. and its allies have taken military action against the Houthis. The United Kingdom has previously joined the U.S. in joint naval and air strikes against the group. Israel, too, has carried out separate strikes targeting Houthi-linked sites. Despite these efforts, the Houthis have persisted in their attacks, launching nearly 200 strikes on Red Sea shipping between November 2023 and October 2024.
Trump’s decision to take aggressive military action marks a significant escalation in U.S. involvement in the region. He also took the opportunity to criticize the previous administration, blaming President Joe Biden for being “pathetically weak” in dealing with the Houthis and allowing them to continue their operations unchecked.
With tensions at an all-time high, the world is now closely watching how Iran and the Houthis will respond to the latest U.S. strikes. The situation remains highly volatile, and as Trump has made clear, the U.S. is prepared to use overwhelming force to achieve its objectives.
