Trump Slams Zelensky’s Remarks on Ukraine War, Calls for Peace Deal
Donald Trump has once again clashed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over the ongoing war with Russia. In response to Zelensky’s recent statement that a peace deal was “very far away,” Trump fired back on social media, calling it the “worst statement” the Ukrainian leader could have made. “America will not put up with it for much longer,” Trump declared, accusing Zelensky of deliberately avoiding peace negotiations.
This latest spat follows an intense confrontation at the Oval Office, where Trump and Vice President JD Vance expressed frustration with Zelensky, demanding more gratitude for the billions of dollars in aid Ukraine has received. “Just say thank you,” Vance reportedly told Zelensky during the heated exchange. Trump went even further, warning that Ukraine was “gambling with World War Three” by prolonging the conflict instead of seeking a diplomatic resolution.

Meanwhile, European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, have been working on a separate peace initiative. At a recent London summit, they proposed a “coalition of the willing” to guarantee Ukraine’s security in the event of a peace deal. However, Trump’s stance has caused uncertainty among Western allies. While Britain and France have pledged continued support for Ukraine, Scandinavian nations have signaled they might only commit if the U.S. remains on board.
The tensions between Trump and Zelensky highlight the shifting dynamics in U.S. foreign policy. Trump, who has previously praised Vladimir Putin and questioned America’s role in supporting Ukraine, has held private discussions with Moscow—without involving Kyiv. Reports suggest his administration is even considering lifting sanctions on Russia as part of a broader strategy to restore relations.
As pressure mounts, Trump has hinted at possible changes in military aid to Ukraine, though he has denied making any final decisions. European officials, meanwhile, are growing increasingly concerned about Washington’s commitment. A senior EU diplomat bluntly stated, “Trump must decide whether he wants to be a leader of the free world or an extortionist.”
With the war dragging on and geopolitical tensions escalating, the world is watching to see whether Trump’s approach will lead to a breakthrough or deepen the divisions among Western allies.
