Beer Recall Shocks Shoppers Ahead of Easter Long Weekend

Hey everyone, just a quick heads-up — especially for those planning to crack open a few cold ones this Easter weekend — there’s been a pretty serious beer recall that you need to know about. Coles Group has issued an urgent recall on two popular beer products due to chemical contamination concerns. The products affected are the Uberbrau Ultra Low Alcohol Lager (330ml) and the Henninger Lager Bottle (660ml) . These were available for sale between April 2 and April 15 in Western Australia, across Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market, and Coles Online.

Now here’s the worrying part: it’s not something wrong inside the beer itself, but rather a chemical contamination found on the outer packaging . But even that is no small issue — it’s said to cause an “unpleasant odour,” and the presence of such chemicals could pose health risks if consumed, according to Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ). Authorities are urging people to not consume these beers and instead dispose of them immediately. If you’ve bought one, you’re entitled to a full refund, either online or in-store, at any participating Coles Group liquor store — including Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market, or Vintage Cellars.

It's a disappointing situation, especially heading into a long weekend when people were planning to relax and celebrate. The thought of grabbing a few imported brews for a backyard BBQ or family get-together is a common Easter tradition, and this recall throws a bit of a curveball into those plans. But safety has to come first, right?

If you’re unsure whether your beer is affected, here are the details to look out for:

  • Uberbrau Ultra Low Alcohol Lager 330ml – packed on 12/11/2024, best before 12/02/2026

  • Henninger Lager 660ml – packed on 05/12/2024, best before 05/03/2026

If you spot those dates, don’t take the risk. And if you’ve already had a sip and are feeling unwell, FSANZ recommends seeking medical attention just to be safe.

It’s moments like these that really remind us how important proper food and beverage handling is. So whether you’re doing your shopping in person or online, keep an eye on those product recalls — especially before big events like Easter.

Anyway, spread the word to your mates, your neighbours, or anyone you know who might’ve picked up a case. Hopefully, this gets sorted quickly and we can all get back to enjoying the weekend safely — beer in hand, minus the chemicals. Cheers to that — responsibly, of course.
