Delicious Orie's Journey: From Russia to the Boxing Ring and Beyond
Delicious Orie is on the brink of his professional boxing debut, stepping into the ring at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena this Saturday. At 27, Orie has already cemented his place as one of Britain’s most promising heavyweight prospects. His rise in the sport has been anything but conventional—starting out without the natural talent of some of his peers, he has transformed himself into a formidable fighter. A proud member of Team GB, Orie boasts an impressive amateur career, securing bronze and gold medals at the 2022 European Championships and Commonwealth Games. His ultimate goal was to make his mark at the Paris 2024 Olympics, joining the likes of Audley Harrison, Anthony Joshua, and Joe Joyce as an Olympic medalist.
However, the dream didn’t materialize as expected. A controversial split decision against France’s Davit Chaloyan denied him an Olympic medal, a loss that still lingers in his mind. “Every day, I think about not medaling in the Olympics,” Orie reflects. “I had set a goal for myself, and I didn’t achieve it. It’s something I have to learn to live with.”

Despite this heartbreak, Orie quickly became a hot commodity in the boxing world. UK promoters scrambled to sign him, but an unexpected opportunity nearly pulled him away from the sport—an offer from WWE. The wrestling powerhouse saw potential in Orie, inviting him to Florida for training. “I loved it. The atmosphere, the training, the sense of family—it was all incredible,” he says. “I seriously considered it, but in the end, I knew boxing was my true calling.”
Orie’s passion for boxing ignited when he watched Anthony Joshua dominate the heavyweight division. “I saw him on TV and thought, ‘I want to do what he’s doing.’” Inspired by Joshua’s late start in boxing, Orie walked into a gym at 18 and never looked back. More than just a career, boxing represents fulfillment for Orie. “When I’m old, I want to look back and feel fulfilled. Boxing gives me that.”
Beyond his own aspirations, Orie dreams of inspiring the next generation. Growing up in Russia, he experienced hardship firsthand and now wants to provide opportunities for others. “My first priority is taking care of my family. The second is showing young people, in the UK and worldwide, that success is possible.”
Orie’s goals are crystal clear: world championship glory. “I see myself at the top by 32 or 33,” he says confidently. As he prepares for his pro debut against Milos Veletic, the world watches, eager to see if this determined and ambitious young fighter can turn his vision into reality.
